Vora House, Ahmedabad

Project Category: Interior Design

Status: Completed

Tenure: 2022-2024

The Vora house is a double storey apartment which houses 03 bed spaces with study lounge on the upper level and a host of various facilities on the lower level. The lower level consists of a private elevator lobby, a double height formal living space, a family seating, a dining space attached with the main kitchen, a butlers’ kitchen and two bed spaces. The lavish apartment with a carpet area of around 5500 sq. ft. has a foot-print similar to the one of a private residence.

The original plans (as per developers) included an enclosed linear staircase located in the double height living space and all the bed spaces having access to the wardrobe-washroom spaces through a door.

Approach (es):

When the clients introduced us with the design brief, our mutual discussion led us to the common convictions about interior design spirit; which was luxury minimalist interior design.

As we began working on the layouts, our first instinct was to create a more open plan layout as opposed to the conventional layouts provided keeping in mind to create spaces which would reflect the feel of a private residence. The effort was to create the wardrobe-washroom spaces more open and visually connected with the main bed spaces; enhancing the feeling of one large bed space with necessary divisions for privacy, rather than boxy compartments.

The double height formal living space provided us with an opportunity to design an exquisite circular staircase with a minimal footprint in plan, opening up the views on the back side and creating a sculptural presence in the double height space.

Design expressions/Material palette:

The design essence in the house was of simplicity with sophistication, creating spaces with clean lines that exude elegance through the use of high-quality materials, refined aesthetics, carefully curated elements and bespoke artworks.

At the heart of luxury minimalist design is the use of premium materials. The interiors created are an intricate mixture of furniture with rich marble floors, rare exclusive granite tops, marble wall cladding and fine textiles. These materials are beautiful, durable, and timeless, adding a sense of permanence and quality to the space. The goal was to create a sense of understated luxury that is both tactile and visually appealing.

Bespoke furniture is one of the principal characteristics of our interior design practice; emphasizing functional and aesthetic furniture. The custom-made pieces ensured that every item in the space fit perfectly and served a specific purpose. Whether it’s a sleek dining table or a tailored wardrobe closet, bespoke furniture added a level of personalization and exclusivity that is essential to luxury interiors. These pieces are often simple in design but rich in detail, with an emphasis on functionality and high-quality materials.

The double height in the formal living space provided us with the 3d canvas to create large size cylindrical tilted elements with almost a theatrical presence. These elements for artificial lighting almost create a focal light pool on the seating at the living space engaging the viewers with a bit of dramatic lighting effects. A C-shaped marble clad wall wraps up the living space on 3 sides with the fourth side opening up to the double height balcony and expanse further. The marble wall helps in binding together the otherwise fractured volume of the living space; which has a lot of openings on all the sides making the volume devoid of walls. The presence of the brown marble wall and the veneer ceiling create warmth and depth to the interior. These elements help to create a space that feels both luxurious and inviting.

All the bed spaces were designed keeping in mind the clean lines and the minimalistic aesthetic, creating a sense of openness and sophistication in the bed spaces. Each of the bed spaces has been given an individual touch and preference; be it the forms and lines, usage of color, particular liking for stone or to the selection of artwork in line with particular beliefs.

A lot of natural textures and materials like linen curtains, wool rugs, and wooden accents were selected in the home palette. These elements bring a sense of nature indoors, creating a connection between the interior and the outside world.

Art and decor in luxury minimalist interiors have to be carefully curated to complement the overall aesthetic without overwhelming the space. The office comprehensively designs a lot of artworks from the ideation to the final execution. These site specific artworks resonate quite strongly with the homeowner’s taste and that contribute significantly to the aesthetics in the respective space; at the same time adding value to the underlying design concepts. In luxury minimalism, every piece of art or decor serves a purpose, whether it’s to add color, texture, or a focal point.

Every element in the home was intentional, from the choice of materials to the placement of furniture, allowing homeowners to create deeply personal spaces reflecting their tastes and lifestyles.
